Car Seat Hater?

Hubby and I were just talking about baby P2, wondering and dreaming out loud about what she'll be like.  Of course when you already have a child, it's only natural to wonder about the ways in which she will be the same and different as her older sibling (wait, other people do that too, right??).

Besides what will she look like, we were mentioning other traits and habits that we remember about Eliza as a baby... and then we remembered.  The car seat.  Oh, the car seat.  At first I was all like "oh, yeah, that's right, Eliza didn't like her car seat.  Huh.  I sort of forgot!".  And then hubby was all "ummm... honey? 'didn't like'...?".  And then it hit me... ah yes.  That's riiiiiight.  DUDE.  It was bad.  I mean... bad.  I wrote a few blog posts about it and when I went back and read them.... DUDE.  It all came back to me, and it was not pretty.

So, needless to say, we're wondering if P2 will harbor as much intense hatred for the car seat/car as Eliza did.

Then we talked about spitting up - which Eliza never ever did.  So, maybe we'll get a baby who doesn't mind the car seat, but spits up all the time?  Heh.  Or, maybe a spitter upper and a car seat hater, but a better sleeper??!!

Who knows.  And really, it doesn't matter!  This little one is going to be her own new little person, and we are beyond excited to meet her and love her and get to know her and all her sweet, adorable, frustrating, quirky ways.

It's fun to think about her and wonder... but it will be even more exciting to find out for ourselves!

33 weeks along.  Getting close!

Heard in our house lately.

"It looks incredibly different down here!" --upon seeing the basement after we cleaned out half of it and organized it.

"I'm just so happy." --when she couldn't fall asleep one night, she said this to Andy as he was singing to her.

"Mom, here's the plan..." --she says this anytime she clearly wants to control the situation (so, um, basically all the time). She gives me  The Plan and then follows it up with: "okay mom? okay does that sound like a good plan?"

"I love baby." --this is heard around here a lot lately.  She is getting increasingly impatient and wondering why baby sister is taking so long to get here.  Poor thing, I can tell she is excited in her own little way and wants baby to get here - and soon.  She is always being so lovey-dovey with my belly and saying how much she loves baby.  Talking to her, singing to her, and always in the cutest little voice.  It totally slays me.  So adorably sweet.

"I'm a helper girl!" --with the exception of that one time she up and quit, she loves being a helper around the house.  She seems to take great pride in the work she can do and how much it helps us out.  We thank her and tell her that she's part of this family team and we definitely need, expect and appreciate her help.  And I have to say, as a parent, it is pretty damn rewarding to watch your kid truly want to/try to/actually help with chores.  I just wonder how long this lasts......?

"I QUIT!"

Eliza has been such a big helper lately.  She loves trying to find things to help with around the house.  The other day, she successfully switched the laundry for me - put the dry laundry in the laundry basket, and then put the wet laundry from the washer into the dryer.  BOOM.  We've made it.  The girl can do stuff for us.  USEFUL STUFF!

One of the other tasks we commonly ask her to do is to put away the clean silverware from the dishwasher.  So yesterday I asked her to do this as I was putting away the rest of the dishes.  She was reluctant at first, which was unlike her, but I told her I needed her help and this was one of "her jobs" that we expected her to do when we asked her... I went on and on about how we need her help, she's a part of the family, etc... blah, blah, blah, Mom Talk, blah, blah, blah.

In the middle of my soliloquy, she looks up at me and says - totally seriously - "MOM? I QUIT!"

I could hardly contain my reaction - it was so freaking hilarious!  They are not kidding what they say about the similarities between 3-year-olds and 13-year-olds.

(Yes, I followed up with lots more Mom Talk... don't worry.  But seriously?  It was so funny.  I almost just threw my own arms up to declare the same thing.  I feel 'ya, kiddo! :)

As of late.

Ah, blogging.  I miss you.

I just haven't been successful at finding a groove this year.  Two jobs, both online, in a post-nap-era, leaves little time left to write about all the fun stuff that has been going on lately.  It's a darn shame, too, because life is good right now.  And that deserves blogging, and remembering (which I have a hard time doing unless I write a blog post about it, it seems).

The highlights?

This is going beautifully:

Baby girl is growing noticeably stronger; her kicks are getting jabbier and I swear I can feel her elbowing (head butting?) my bladder.  She's also started doing the same thing her sister did - jumping whenever I crack my ankle.  And yes, it is a fun little game I like to play with my fetuses, apparently, because I just can't make myself stop doing it... as annoying as it might be to them :).  The third trimester started with the worst day of pregnancy so far, feeling-sick-wise, when I had to do the 3-hour glucose test.  Dude.  That was awful.  Not recommended.  Passed it, fortunately.  But OH BOY.  You did not want to be around me during those 3 hours (or for a few hours afterwards, frankly).

This sweet girl has also been in a sweeter-than-ever phase lately (except for when she's not, and we'll just save that for another blog post, shall we?), especially with me (a rarity).  It's been lovely, and we've had some really sweet moments lately.

Then there is this:

This.  This is what it is all about.  A lazy Saturday morning in bed, a happy girl, two tired but equally happy parents. :)
