Alice: 2 Months

Alice is two whole months old!  We just went to her 2 month well baby check up on Friday and learned that she is:

  • 92nd percentile for weight (13 lbs 10 ozs)
  • 81st percentile for height (23.7" long)
She is our big girl, just like her big sister was when she was a baby.  I guess my babies just insist on being big when they are babies!  Fine by me - I love those baby thigh rolls :)

Alice has become much more alert, as babies do when they emerge from their newborn haze.  We really started to see this last week when we were on vacation with my family.  She suddenly had many more periods of awake time throughout the day and didn't sleep all. day. long. like she used to.  She also started really smiling and cooing, which just lights up your world.  Each one is like a little glimpse of sunshine on a cloudy day.  Her smiles are heavenly!

At around 5 or 6 weeks old, Alice reached an unfortunate milestone.  Well, at least it's a milestone if you're my baby: car seat hatred.  As I feared, we seem to have another car seat/car hater.  *sad face*  I actually didn't think it could happen twice, but I was wrong.  She screams and screams until she's red in the face and nearly out of breath.  Coming home from vacation, a normally 5-hour drive turned into a painful, loud, stressful 9-hour drive.  It was awful.  I will admit that she is not AS bad as her sister was. She's probably happy about 15-20% of the time in the car, whereas with Eliza it was only probably about 5-10% of the time that she didn't scream in the car.  So, at least there's that.  Anyway, we can only hold on to the hope that Alice will grow out of it in time like people say many kids do (Eliza didn't, but let's not focus on that right now...!).

Sleep!  Everyone wants to know about sleep :)  So far, I have no complaints, and I hope she wouldn't either ;)  We are co-sleeping.  She goes to sleep with us around 10:00 or so, and will wake up 1-2 times (3x on a "bad" night) to nurse, and often sleeps until 8 or 9 in the morning if we have no where to go, and if big sister doesn't try to accidentally wake her up.  I haven't felt sleep deprived since Alice was born, and I am so grateful!  I wonder if this is also because I was already used to not sleeping well/that much?  Before I had Eliza, I was sleeping like 10-11 hours per night (yes, really), so the newborn thing was QUITE the shock to my system.  This time... well, you can guess how it's different this time.  We count ourselves very lucky to have a baby who sleeps SO much better than a certain sweet sweet baby I used to know!  As for napping, she naps in the sling or the Ergo when we're out and about, and when we're at home, too.  She hasn't napped in her crib yet, she prefers mama's chest :)

What else?  Nursing is going great (obvs, as the girl has gained FIVE pounds since she was born!).  We've started transitioning her into cloth diapers - a little later than we did with Eliza.  Can't seem to find my laundry groove this time around.  I'll get there.  When she's in disposables, she's wearing a size 2 diaper, and in our cloth she's in the small DryBees AIOs we used with Eliza.  Hoping to move her quickly into the BumGenius AIOs as those never leaked EVER and we are having some leakage issues with the DryBees.  NOW is when I make all my money back on those CDs!  Yay for having a second in cloth :)

A picture post is coming soon!  Just wanted to get this posted!!

Good to hear about your new baby girl! We just had our Madeleine last month and she is six weeks old. I have a 3-year-old daughter so I know about our baby being accidentally woken up by a toddler. It happens all the time! She just loves her little sister and likes to touch her and put many blankets on her which I have to remind her that Madeleine does not need five blankets on her. Madeleine did not like the car seat at first but she is getting used to it and will calm down if you are carrying her in it or I have the car in motion but there are times she won't calm down and I have to stop the car to help her. Our two-month appointment is coming up soon I am not looking forward to the shots but it will be nice to see how much she weighs and how long she is.

Your two girls sound wonderful so happy for your family!
